Tag, I’m It
February 1, 2008 by Kate Olson
Only in the name of building community and continuing my blogging education am I participating in these “memes” or “tags” (although I don’t really get it - seems to me as if they’re just like those chain emails that I get and don’t actually fill out unless I’m seriously procrastinating. Hmmmm, maybe that’s what I’m doing now? It’s taken me a week to get to this.) I’ll play along! Anyway, I was tagged 2x in one day, so I’m doing both in one post. Here goes!
eight things meme
“Eight things you (probably) didn’t know about me.”
I was tagged for this by Rebecca Krause-Hardie, one of the “31 Days” Challenge members:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. List EIGHT random facts about yourself.
3. Tag people at the end of your post and list their names.
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged.
Here goes:
- I did a brief stint in Army ROTC during my undergrad days (can you imagine?)
- I have completed 2 marathons and 3 half-marathons
- I live on 40 acres at the end of a dead-end road
- I was an accountant before becoming a teacher
- I had dial-up internet until just this past December
- I BEGGED for a typewriter when I was in elementary school and actually got one - spent many, many hours writing my “books” on it
- There’s only 1 phone jack in my entire house
- I lived in 8 houses, 4 towns, and 2 states while growing up
And I’m tagging Damian Bariexca for this one - he’s a ”twitter associate” who’s strangely into rap these days…………….
And meme number two was thrown at me by Anne Mirtschin - here goes:
The Bucket List meme was started by Jeff Pulver and is based on the movie. Essentially it is a list of things you hope to accomplish in 2008. So….here goes….in no particular order (professional goals only)
- Maintain this blog without going crazy
- Attempt to stay connected with my PLN in the most efficient way possible (not have twhirl open all day!)
- Find and use a good calendar/planner system for staying organized
- Find and begin a Masters in Education/Technology
- Focus on one new tool at a time with my students - too tempting to jump on every new thing that comes along and not teach anything effectively
- Get at least 5 online courses up and running
- Work to expand the parent/community evening classes I’m going to be teaching to include some basic technology courses
- Create a professional-sounding keyboarding podcast with my 6th graders
- Become a moodle-master

- Read the multiple edtech books I have piled on my desk at home (A Whole New Mind, etc)
For this one, I tag……………….Taylor the Teacher - she may be a talking plastic doll, but she has hilarious things to say about education!

Hi Kate, I dont like chain letters either and they always stop at me. When I got my first tag and that was the first one you filled in, I did not understand and felt safer not doing anything. However, doing what we do, shows that we are risk takers, so I filled in the meme tag. Now, I have read your 2 tags and I am sure that it does help build the social network which is so important to continue on with what we do and help others along the way.
Thanks for the tag; unfortunately, I’ve already been hit by this one twice in the last few months. You can see the 8 things you wish you never knew about me here.
“Strangely into rap these days”? If by “these days”, you mean, “for over two decades”, then yes.
Excellent post! The banner picture for your blogs exhibits a modern symbiosis of both worlds we live in: the virtual and the real. Very cool!
